Visit The Mayan Museum of Cancun
Whilst culture and history may not be the primary reason most people visit Cancun, that does not mean that it does not have interesting roots that will capture your imagination. The Mayan Museum of Cancun is a top spot for history buffs and travelers looking to immerse themselves in a touch of Mexico’s heritage.
Museum Pricing
As one of the most important cultural spaces of Quintana Roo, you will be happy to know that it's a very cost-effective activity to enjoy, with tickets often costing just under $6.00 USD (100 MXN). Even if travelling with friends, it is an affordable price for everyone to enjoy. Additionally, if you are over 60 years old, then you do not have to pay a thing.
When to visit
Plan to visit any day except Mondays from 9 am to 5 pm for about an hour or two of historical exploration. The best time to visit is in the Morning or late afternoons during the week, since it will be cooler and less crowded. Note that on Sundays, locals get free entry, so it may be a bit busier.
What is here
Whilst the Museum itself is an Architectural wonder designed by Alberto García Lascuráin, the building houses some unique collections of ancient artifacts with key pieces from Chichen Itza, Palenque, Comalcalco, along with other important Mayan archaeological discoveries.

Some highlights include a jade funerary mask, a polychrome vessel with a bird motif, and a facade element featuring a bird head and human face. These pieces showcase elite burials, symbolic art, and ceremonial architecture from the Mayan world.
Explore the San Miguelito Archaeological Site
Adjacent to the Mayan Museum of Cancun is the San Miguelito Archaeological site. Whenever you purchase entry to the Museum, you will also be given immediate access to this historical location.
Whilst the original name of this place is unknown, it is said to have been an important center of trade from 1100 to 1450 A.D., with a similar architectural style to Tulum. It is the northern section of the El Rey Archaeological site, which was split off in the 1970s and opened to the public in 2012.
