Travel workouts: the best ways to stay fit on vacation with exercises and activities

What do you need to do to stay fit on vacation? How can you be more active throughout your stay? All the answers are here!

Vacations are meant to be enjoyed. They are a time when you leave all your worries behind and enjoy the indulgent relaxation of your luxurious resort. With that in mind, you may wonder whether it is reasonable or practical to workout while traveling. You may even start to wonder if it might ruin your vacation or lessen your enjoyment.

Well, done the right way with reasonableness in mind, vacation workouts can be fun, and enjoyable and will keep you feeling at your best throughout your time away. This article is going to show you all the best travel exercises and workout equipment ideas so that you can make the most of your getaway whilst staying fit.

Start with the right mindset

Working out on vacation is not the same as doing it in your daily or weekly routine. Yes, you can likely find all the equipment you need but you should not stress too much about exactly replicating what you usually do back home. You are on vacation.

Exercise because you want to not because you feel you have to. In this way, you will enjoy it a lot more, feel more dedicated to your workout, and be less anxious about how much you do. Your attitude for this to work needs to be calm, content, and at peace.

Begin each day the right way

A lot of people like to start the day nice and early before the sun rises. You may not want to do this every day but it is definitely worth a try on one of your first days at your resort to see how you feel and how it improves your mood for the rest of the day.

Get up nice and early so you can walk along the shore and enjoy the crisp morning air and the warm golden horizon. This can be anything from a casual stroll to a brisk sprint but either way, go at your own pace and run where the sand is wet for an easier jog.

With a good start and some immediate exercise, you can eat nice and early and kickstart your metabolism.

Eat and drink to enjoyment

You are going to have so much access to delicious food and snacks all day every day. You may be surprised to hear me say that you should enjoy all these amazing restaurant flavors and delights. However, there is a limit between enjoyment and that point where you feel overindulged and uncomfortable.

When it comes to food, choose something you like but don't feel like you have to eat everything in a single day. Take it slow and leave yourself some comfortable room so that it doesn't make you lethargic and prevent you from continuing your activities.

Good portion sizes to help you stay fit on vacation

As for drinks, be mindful of how alcohol can dehydrate you, and make sure that you drink plenty of water so that your exercise plans remain safe and unaffected.

Include active experiences

Not all travel workouts are about lifting weights and running on a treadmill. Often, your exercise routine can be supplemented with incredible local experiences. For example, instead of sitting on a rowing machine, you may take out a kayak or a paddleboard to work out your core.

Your escape is full of activities and things to do that can keep you active throughout your vacation. It just requires some creative thinking and some willingness to try something new. Begin by checking with the resort concierge about what sports and activities they have within the resort, and then go and see what else you might like to try nearby.

Whether you go snorkeling, horseback riding, exploring, or something else, these activities ensure that you keep yourself fit whilst doing something amazing that you can enjoy.

Experiment with the exercise equipment

Likely your resort has a gym or high end fitness center with all the weights and equipment that you need to stay fit on vacation. Why not try it out and see if you enjoy it? It will be different from what you have back home and sometimes it's nice to push yourself a little so that you can truly relax afterward.

You should also check to see if your resort has any sort of in suite training options. This would allow you to work out from the comfort of your suite without anyone watching over you. You may also choose to plan for such a scenario by selecting the best travel exercise equipment that is lightweight and bringing it with you. Whilst you wouldn't do this with weights it can work well for things like resistance bands.

Lastly do not forget that the best travel workout equipment is something that you always carry with you. Yourself. Calisthenics is always a wonderful option. This is to do strength training exercises using your own body weight as workout equipment. Pushups, situps, planks, squats, lunges, dips, and more are always at your disposal.

Get a good night's rest

The last thing to consider for travel workouts is to make sure that you get plenty of rest. If you are up until 4 am and only get a few hours of sleep, you are truly unlikely to do any exercise the following day so make sure you use the comfort of your luxury suite to the full.

To keep it enjoyable and to ensure that you keep active, make sure that you schedule plenty of time not just to lie in bed, but to properly sleep. After all, you are on vacation and you're going to be in a very very comfortable bed. Might as well make the most of it.

With your energy renewed each day, you can once again restart with vigor and set the tone for a new day of exercises and activities.
